Description: BAGHDAD – Coalition forces wounded one suspected terrorist and captured eight other suspects during simultaneous raids near Baqubah early July 4.

The targeted terrorists are associated with a senior leader within the al-Qaida in Iraq terrorist organization who was captured southwest of Baqubah in June. This individual had several terrorist cells reporting directly to him and has admitted to several attacks on innocent Iraqis, including women and children. Intelligence has also linked these individuals to plans for a new assassination cell.

Several men fled the target area upon arrival of the assault force. The ground force proceeded to rapidly secure the initial target area. One was wounded as he attempted to escape capture; the assault force engaged and then detained him. Two other suspects were later apprehended without incident following a short pursuit. The wounded terrorist received first aid on site for a gun shot wound.

An additional four suspects were captured as another assault element simultaneously secured an adjacent target location; the remaining two were detained at a third target.
