Description: BAGHDAD – Coalition forces captured six men associated with terrorist activity, wounding one, during a raid northwest of Fallujah July 3.
The wounded enemy was maneuvering to gain a tactical advantage on the assault force and they engaged and detained him. The others were apprehended without incident.
The raid was targeting a cell known for vehicle-borne improvised explosive device operations. This and other successful operations by Iraqi and Coalition forces are degrading the terrorist network’s ability to conduct operations designed to threaten the security and safety of innocent Iraqis throughout central Iraq.
On July 30, Coalition forces uncovered a VBIED production facility which contained a very large weapons cache which included numerous mortar rounds and other projectile explosives. Several vehicles found on site had been rigged as VBIEDs. This discovery followed the successful air strike which killed four terrorists that were responsible for at least three mortar attacks targeting Iraqi civilians.
